We’re your Students' Union, we represent all students studying at UWTSD. Your Union, also known as Trinity Saint David Students’ Union, TSDSU or just the SU, is a charity organisation led by student-elected representatives. We work with the University but are separate from them. This independence means that we have students’ best interest at heart, always.
We run a student representation system which allows us to listen to and help students change the things that affect them – from tackling university rules and policies that aren’t working, to identifying course issues – helping you make the changes you want to see.
Throughout the year you will see us running campaigns surrounding issues that affect student life, exam stress, housing, mental health etc. We encourage you to get involved or suggest ideas.
We are here for you if you ever need support or independent advice whether it’s socially, mentally, physically or academically. We have a dedicated staff expert who deals with academic issues.
One person on your course will become the ‘course rep’. These volunteers will listen to your opinions and ideas and work with staff on your courses to make your experience the best it can be.
Each faculty has an additional paid student rep who works with the University management in your academic school to make sure that student issues are being heard and that the student's voice is acted upon.
These are elected students who campaign on issues and help to run on-campus events and activities. We have officers on each campus and they have a range of individual portfolios which represent specific areas, such as the environment, international students or for students with disabilities. They are voted into position each year and shape the work of the Students’ Union through their engagement in Campus Student Councils.
Sabbatical officers take a year out of study to perform their role, they are voted into position each year by the student body. They represent all students and guide the union’s decision making on a daily basis. Your 2018/19 campus officers are shown on the next/previous page.
your union gives you the space to develop skills, make friends and enjoy uni life. Our members can start and run clubs and societies or take on volunteering projects while they study. We currently have 80 groups listed across all our sites and are constantly adding new opportunities. You’ll get a chance to meet all our current groups at our Freshers’ Fairs or you can see a list and join through our website. Your Union also run events to keep you entertained. Carmarthen and Lampeter campuses are home to the SU bar and nightclubs and we have partnerships with student-friendly venues in Swansea. We also plan and run the Official UWTSD Welcome Weeks.
We’re alongside you for the duration of your University experience, making it fun and helping you out when times are tough. We’ll talk to you, stand up for you, and empower you.
