COVID-19 Update: Your Students' Union - digitally

Wednesday 18-03-2020 - 11:00

We know that to you we’re not just a building. We are a support service that provides you advice when things don’t go the way they’re meant to, we help organise your voice, we help you to run activities to help you meet new people and stay healthy.

With continuing developments around COVID-19 we have taken the decision to work remotely to ensure that our staff and students are safe. This decision was not easy. We will be closing our buildings from today (Wednesday 18 March 9am), but continue to operate digitally. We know that it is a difficult time for everyone and appreciate that you need support which is why all of our staff are still available via email.

Your sabbatical officers are working hard with the university to ensure that you are communicated with effectively.

We want to be on your campuses with you, however these circumstances are out of our control and we ask that you have patience with us whilst we and the university adapt to the current situation to support you the best way we can. We will be operating in this way until at least 20th April. At that point we will re-assess based on any developments.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the situation. We’ve seen reports of discrimination and racism stemming from this outbreak across the UK. TSDSU condemns this behaviour, and we would encourage anyone affected by it and those who witness it to report it via the Students’ Union Confidential Harassment Report Form. Now more than ever, we must come together and find ways of supporting each other. Be kind and reach out to those who you may know are struggling, and together we can get through this difficult time.

You are bound to have questions about what is happening across the university and union. If you have questions take a look at the university’s pages on the situation including the student FAQs. If you feel your question isn’t on there get in touch with Hwb

We’re also conscious of how this information will affect your mental health and wellbeing, particularly for those in self-isolation. Remember that The Big White Wall is a brilliant space that students can use if they’re feeling down, need support, or would like to talk. Keep in touch with us and with friends, housemates, people on your course, and anyone else that is in your life at university, sending one message could make someone’s day!

Advice and guidance around assessments

The sabbatical officers are working closely with the university to communicate any short-term changes to the university's assessment regulations to make sure that no student is disadvantaged and that the changes are communicated appropriately.

If you have any questions at all about this please contact

The Elections are still going! You still have the opportunity to choose who will lead the students’ union. Head to to cast your vote before Thursday 19 March at 4pm

There will also be a daily personalised link sent to your student email address (please check your Junk file!) which will take your straight to the voting page.

Sports Clubs, Societies, and Volunteering

We would encourage all student groups to not undertake any activity during this time.

Sports activity – all training, fixtures and other sport activity is suspended until further notice

Volunteering activities will also be paused.

It might be during this time that you think of a new club or society – if you do, let us know here

We will also be asking our clubs and societies to think about how they can still hold AGMs online.

Both Carmarthen and Lampeter Venues are closed - however if you have any thoughts on our current offering we ask that you get in touch with us to tell us what we do well and what we can enhance.

Anything relating to Coleg Sir Gair – please contact the Coleg directly.
