Hello! My name is Becky, and I am your Group President for 2019/2020! My role is to represent you and stand up for you as a student. From Carmarthen through to Birmingham, we are here to offer you opportunities, guidance and support any time you need us to. If you’re a student of UWTSD, then you’re also a student of TSDSU - no matter what you study, where you study or how you study, we are here to make your time as a student the best that it can be! Get involved at your own pace and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the year!
This is by no means an exhaustive list of things I’ll be working on over my year as Group President, so to find out what else myself and the other Officers are working on, you can email us, have a look at their individual pages or come along to our Student Councils!
We want to foster a culture of inclusivity, safety and openness on all of our campuses, and we are starting the conversation with #NeverOK. From induction talks to Welcome events, we want to embed that harassment, assault and discrimination is zero-tolerance throughout UWTSD and TSDSU. I will be working on raising awareness of our campaign, our Harassment Report Form and introducing upstander training to all new first-year students during their inductions
This was an overarching theme of my previous year in office as Carmarthen Campus President, but now it’s time to step it up! We need to both make individual changes, as well as hold our institution to account when they do not make sustainable or ethical decisions. From procurement to wages to demanding a climate emergency declaration, I will be working alongside the University to put forward students’ concerns about the dangers they and future generations face.
Our student body have elected a brilliant deck of Part-Time Officers (PTO’s) across our three South Wales sites, and we want to make sure that they are shaped and empowered to become not only exemplary student leaders, but ambassadors for TSDSU. The Students’ Union is student-led and student-focussed, so I want to work on developing our support and aiding our PTO’s to run their own campaigns to not only give them more legitimacy, but also encourage a high calibre of officers for the future. This is by no means an exhaustive list of things I’ll be working on over my year as Group President, so to find out what else myself and the other Officers are working on, you can email us, have a look at their individual pages or come along to our Student Councils!
