I can empathise with mature students who find themselves on courses where most people are 18-21. This is not my experience here, but previously I did an access course at College, where the majority of students were 16-18 years old. Myself being the ripe age of 53 was a jump older than them and older than most of their parents (most of the lecturers too).
I would get youngsters coming up to me and asking where certain rooms or lecturers were, they would look at me stunned when I explained that I was also a student. Now when I think back I am glad I did an access course as when I left school in 1979, I was the proud owner of nothing more than a 20 yard swimming certificate and it allowed me to develop.
Although I do feel that I made the right choice in coming to UWTSD as the atmosphere is totally conducive in the wide age range of all students. I know my time here has been a positive experience and as your officer I want to make sure yours is too.
As they say ageing is compulsory, maturing is optional.
